House Bill 2448 – Lowers the hiring age allowed for Conservation Police Officers to 20 from 21, but does not allow such an officer to make arrests or carry a firearm until the officer is 21 and completes education requirements.

Senate Bill 99 – Requires public universities and community colleges to establish a process to provide reasonable accommodation to a student with disabilities by expanding the types of documents that are acceptable as proof of disability and disseminating information regarding disability services in a transparent way.

HB4417 (Public Act 103-0598 effective July 1st, 2024)

Representative Johnson is the chief sponsor of HB4417 (now public act 103-0598), a bill that encourages all public school designate and annually observe “workplace Readiness Week.” During this week students will receive crucial information about their rights as workers and preparing them for the workforce. This initiative aims to empower students with the knowledge they need to navigate the workforce confidently and safely.

HB4954 – now Public Law 103-0739

This proposal amends the Coal Mining Act (225 ILCS 705) to clarify the the roles of the State and of the coal industry in mine rescue services by clearly defining each respected role and providing clarity in life-or-death rescue situations.

SB2353 – now Public Law 103-0982

The Community-Based Corrections Task Force is created. The Task Force shall study and develop innovative ways to introduce community-based corrections and rehabilitation into the State’s correctional system and develop a community-based correctional program that would support or remove barriers to community-based corrections in Illinois, focusing on pretrial services and those sentenced to probation.
